Native Foods Available to the Arctic Restaurant

For the kitchen of the Arctic Restaurant there were allot of native greens, flowers, berries, and meats available to Frederick Trump. Many of these items would have been known to Mr. Trump like the Black Morel mushrooms which grow in Europe and are in abundance in the north. They are highly prized by mushroom hunters. Dandelions are widespread and were perfect for salads as well as for making wine and coffee-like beverages from the roots. Many assumed that Frederick Trump only got supplies from travelling to Skagway but we highly doubt he would not trade with the local native population for many of his food stores. Indeed, we have heard tales from the elders about the early trading activities between the native population, the scores of miners who arrived on their doorstep, and the restaurants that served them. One such oral history involves some restaurants trading in liquor to acquire the necessary supplies to keep their businesses open. In understanding the native foods, we can gain a glimpse of what was probably on the menu of Frederick Trump's Arctic Restaurant.
